Webinar 3 of ACITI's Realising Paperless Trade series featured Peter Carter and Patrick Jonasson from GS1 talking about advancements in HS code automation.

Peter provided an overview of past projects and work in progress to help reduce complexity in HS Code classification based on GS1 product identifiers. He defined some of the practical issues and limitations and made suggestions on how Australia (via the Simplified Trade System/Customs) could leverage the “natural language of business and product identifiers” to streamline border processes based on the progress made in economies such as the United States, China, and New Zealand.
