On 30 August 2024, ACITI and ANZ hosted a day of discussion on the seismic shifts and opportunities for Australia's international trade and trade finance created by the rapidly advancing technologies bringing a real-time digital economy to life.

Advancements in HS Code Automation
Peter Carter and Patrick Jonasson from GS1 talk about advancements in HS code automation. Peter provided an overview of past projects and work in progress to help reduce complexity in HS Code classification based on GS1 product identifiers. He defined some of the practical issues and limitations and made suggestions on how Australia could leverage the “natural language of business and product identifiers” to streamline border processes.
